MVBA Newsletters Will no Longer be Sent by Mail
Due to the cost and time it takes to print, post and mail newsletters, MVBA will only be sending the newsletter out electronically beginning with the May edition.

In addition, MVBA will be leaving printed copies of the newsletter in various restaurants, cafes, and businesses throughout Mount Vernon that you are welcome to pick up.
Proposed Addition to the Historic Hotel Brexton
In the first half of meeting, we will hear and discuss plans for the construction of an addition to historic Hotel Brexton. We look forward to hearing from the developers and from the community on this matter. Please join us to learn about this important proposal and to share your thoughts, concerns, and questions.
11th District City Council Candidates Forum
In the second half of the meeting, we will be holding a forum for the candidates running for City Council in the 11th district. Come hear from these candidates who have been kind enough to come to our General Body Meeting on the eve of the following week’s primary election. Come kickoff spring at Ware House 518 for Mount Vernon’s first Tippler Thursday event! Festivities begin at 6:00 pm on April 21st — the third Thursday of the month. Ware House 518 will be serving a featured cocktail for the event which they have named “The Vernon.” If you have not visited Ware House 518 before, you are in for a treat! The space is wow-worthy, the cocktails amazing and the food incredible. So come support and toast your neighbors, friends and local business owners at our first ever Tippler Thursday! Spring Cleaning Garage Sale at Hotel Indigo to Benefit the Dog Park
It’s time to declutter! The Hotel Indigo is hosting a “Garage Sale” in the underground garage and the booth rental proceeds will be donated to the dog park for ongoing maintenance. The sale will take place on Saturday, May 7th from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.
Parking space rental (booths) is as follows: $50 for for-profit organizations & $40 for non-profit organizations and individuals. Rental includes one parking space per vendor buttables will not be provided.
Everyone please come out on May 7th to find new treasures or make some money selling your old treasures. To rent a space in the Hotel Indigo’s garage please contact jason.curtis@hotelindigobaltimore.com
Howards Park Dog Run is located at Howard and Center Street. This collaborative effort between the Seton Hill and Mt Vernon Belvedere association is scheduled to open early summer.
New Trash Cans
As stated on the Baltimore City Public Works website, “Baltimore City is providing one free 65-gallon trash can to every residential address that currently receives trash collection service by the City. Using these cans will help keep our neighborhoods and waterways clean, reduce the rodent population, reduce strain on our workers, and make trash collection more efficient. Property owners who own a row home that is part of a continuous block-long group and have front collection have the option to call 311 by April 20, 2016, to request a smaller 35-gallon can. Hang tags will be posted at each property in the weeks prior to delivery. A neighborhood delivery schedule will be posted at www. publicworks.baltimorecity.gov and updated regularly. Please begin using your can as soon as it arrives. Your collection day and pickup location will remain the same.”

If you do have a sanitation issue, please report it to 311 via phone, online or by using the 311 app. You can do this anonymously, and can copy the report number with the address to vicepresident@mvba.org If we do not call, the city will never know there is a problem!

Community gardens can be a beneficial addition to a community by increasing the availability of nutritious foods, strengthening community ties, reducing environmental hazards, reducing food miles and creating a more sustainable system. Baltimore City Farmers’ Market & Bizarre Opening Day – April 17th
Maryland’s largest producers-only market offers an assortment of produce, meats, dairy, breads, flowers, collectibles and crafts on Sundays between April 17, 2016 and December 18, 2016 from 7am to sell out (typically noon). Many Sundays also feature live music performances and cooking demonstrations.
On April 17th, opening day, Chef Egg brings his culinary expertise to the market with cooking demonstrations from 9am to 11:30am. Shoppers can also enjoy live music from Scott Paynter of Jah Works with his original reggae sound. Demos will be held near the Saratoga Street entrance, and market-goers are invited to pick up helpful cooking tips, recipes and delicious samples. For opening day, the first 100 attendees will receive a free tote bag, available at the Welcome Tent.

BSO Pulse: The Lone Bellow
Pulse is a new concert series that brings together the classical world and the indie rock scene on one stage. Each concert will open with members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, followed by a performance by the featured band (The
Lone Bellow) and culminating with a unique collaboration.
